Saturday, December 12 marked the date for the Opening of the Holy Door in Aleppo, Syria. His Excellency Bishop George Abu Khazen, bishop of the Latin Vicariate for Syria, who resides in Aleppo, presided over the ceremony in St. Francis Church in Azizie. Together with him where bishops from the other Catholic Rites.
During the celebration, Bishop George referred to the meaning of the Holy Year, following the Misericoriae Vultus of Pope Francis. He also explained the meaning of the logo chosen for this Holy Year.
Many faithful participated in the celebration, in which the year of Mercy in Aleppo was inaugurated. The Christian faithful in Syria will also have the possibility to gain indulgences in Damasco, Latiaquia and Hasake.
This year dedicated to Mercy, will renew in the faithful Syrian Christians the Hope for the much-desired gift of Peace, intensely implored during the last five years.
